Week in Review September 13, 2025
This week marks the 24th anniversary of the attacks on the Twin Towers, a reminder to pray for all who suffer violence and oppression throughout the world.
In the news: Political Violence. This week also brought the tragic news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Regardless of political views, we must reject violence and pray for peace. I was able to pray for him at Mass.
In the midst of sorrowful news, I want to share an overview of what I have been following and offer some resources you might enjoy.
Best YouTube Video of the Week: Why Are Catholics So Happy? (Arthur Brooks on the “macronutrients” of happiness) Arthur Brooks, famed Happiness Expert and professor at Harvard Business School gave a talk at Benedictine College, arguing that most of us misunderstand what happiness truly is.
Best Podcast of the Week: The Apocalypse, Antichrist, and Second Coming Pints with Aquinas (Scott Hahn on Revelation with Matt Fradd) Scott Hahn shares his perspective that the Book of Revelation is much less about wild stories of the end times and much more about the unity of the earthly and heavenly liturgy.
My thoughts on the Sunday Gospel: Jesus Going Viral. (Another Look at the Cross) This Sunday, we celebrate the Exaltation of the Cross, so I get to take another look at the cross in the life of a Christian disciple trying to follow Christ.
What I am reading: Atomic Habits (James Clear on 1% daily improvement) This is a re-read, and one that I think is well worth it. It is important for all of us to reflect on how to become better, and James Clear suggests trying to get 1% better every day, offering practical ways to make this happen.
Formed.org Highlight: Pier Giorgio Frassati: If I Didn’t Have Love. One of our newest saints has his own movie on Formed.org. This powerful film highlights the life of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, a model of joyful faith. Take an hour this week to watch and be inspired by his example.
