Beginning of SEEK Conference in Columbus
Week in Review
The week brought me to Columbus, Ohio, and frigid temperatures. It is exciting to see the beginning of the SEEK conference, with 16,000 students from around the country coming together for sacraments, prayer, and community. As a special treat, Pope Leo XIV sent a special message to all of us gathered together.
I run into old friends constantly. There are people from different moments of formation and ministry, so each day is a blessing and reminds me of so many graces that God has poured out in my soul
In the news: Speaking to Italy’s National Anti-Usury Council, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the Church teaching against taking advantage of others through abusing loans.
My thoughts on the Sunday Gospel: As we celebrate the feast of Epiphany, we want to learn to read the signs of God. Following the Star: Learning to Read the Signs of God
What I’m reading: Permission to Feel by Marc Brackett is one of the better books I have read in a while. He goes in depth about the role of emotions in our lives. We are not as logical and calculating as we would like to tell ourselves. Understanding our feelings allows us to interpret our inner world more effectively.
YouTube Video of the Week: Bishop Barron Presents Justice Amy Coney Barrett. They have a fascinating conversation about law, philosophy of law, and the role of faith in society.
Podcast of the Week: Arthur Brooks talks about 3 Ways to Set Smarter New Year’s Resolutions on his podcast Office Hours. It helped inspire an article I wrote about making better resolutions at the beginning of the year, Rebranding Yourself for the New Year.
